Reins

Angus Barrett reins are renowned for their durability and quality finish.  They offer a great feel when riding and the more they’re used, the better they get. All Angus Barrett leather reins are hand slicked, pre-oiled and ready for work.  There is no need to grease the leather again. 

Split Reins:   Angus Barrett hand makes three different length split reins: 6, 7 and 8ft, each of which is cut to 16mm wide.   The split reins are all made from Hermann Oak harness leather and are hand-selected by Angus Barrett for their natural weight.  Some are then split to assist in creating a special, weighted feel.  The weight is concentrated around the bit and the tail of the rein, while the centre of the rein, where it is held, is thinned to create an easy, soft hold.  The Angus Barrett Split Reins are also available either fully stitched, or fully stitched and lined.  The fully stitched split reins are designed to be used for neck reining.  The stitching creates extra body and stiffness and longer lasting reins.  The lined reins are lined with an extra piece of Hermann Oak leather to produce an even heavier rein, ideally suited to neck reining. 
Station Reins:  The Angus Barrett station reins are traditional, split reins, with buckle joins to the bit.  The station reins are available in either Hermann Oak harness leather or Sedgwick harness leather.   These are classic reins, which ride beautifully and feel fantastic.
Joined Reins:   These quality stockman reins have been specially designed for young riders or for individuals who prefer not to use split reins.   They are joined at the end with a buckle.
Driving Reins:  These quality reins provide ample length and a great feel when breaking or driving horses.  They are made of quality Hermann Oak leather, with a buckle join to bit.
Plaited Red-hide Reins:  These reins are made from quality red-hide leather and plaited with a unique and special plait.  They are joined at the bit by golf knots.   The red-hide reins are very comfortable and long lasting.
Roping Reins:  These reins are made out of rolled Hermann Oak harness leather to create a nice one handed hold for competition.  The Angus Barrett roping or sporting reins can be altered from a full size rein to short competition reins.  The reins are designed with a snap clip to the bit, to make them easy to get off and on.  
Soft Cotton Reins:  These reins are made from quality, soft cotton and are a personal preference product for individuals who like a soft-cotton feel on the hand.
Yachting-rope Reins:  These reins are made from high-grade, double-braided, 14mm yachting rope.   These are extremely durable split reins, with a quality leather join at the bit.  They are a personal preference product for individuals who like a thicker-rope feel on the hands. 
JB Plaited Reins:  These reins are made from soft, plaited silver rope.  They are a personal preference product for individuals who like a soft, light rope feel.  The silver plaited reins are very kind on your hands and provide a very flexible rein for stock work and campdrafting.
